Istanbulski Anadolu Efes, aktuelni evropski prvak, igra fantastičnu košarku u prethodne tri sezone pod vođstvom turskog trenera Ergina Atamana.
Gostujući u podkastu Donatasa Urbonasa Ataman je govorio o hipotetičkoj situaciji u kojima bi se Efes takmičio u NBA.
Nisam razgovarao ni sa kim iz NBA. Vjerujem da trenutno, u prethodnih pet godina u Evropi postoji mnogo dobrih trenera. Tehnički nivo Eurolige je zaista veoma kvalitetan. Postoji pet, šest ili sedam euroligaških trenera koji bi lako mogli da rade u NBA u budućnosti. Meni bi možda bilo i lakše jer mene ne bi bilo briga da li vodim Lakerse, Clipperse, Netse ili Knickse. Ja već znam kako je, imam zvijezde u svom timu, njih traže NBA ekipe. Jedini problem bi mi bio što moj engleski nije savršen. Ipak, to nije veliki problem. Mislim da bih, ako bih dobio ponudu, popravio engleski za nekoliko mjeseci. Italijanski govorim savršeno, kao turski, jer sam radio u Turskoj”, rekao je u zanimljivom izlaganju Ataman i dodao:
“Ipak, treba znati da su ljudi u NBA prilično konzervativni po pitanju evropskih trenera, tako da ne vjerujem da ću dobiti ponudu. Ono što znam da bi nivo košarke koji trenutno imamo u Efesu mogao da se prenese u NBA. Da sada odemo da igramo u NBA, vjerujem da bismo došli do play-offa. NBA je veliki šou, veliko tržište i imaju stotinu izvanrednih igrača, ali svi osim prvih pedeset su dodirljivi, to se vidi u reprezentativnim takmičenjima.”
Ataman (55) u dosadašnjoj karijeri predvodio je Turk Telekom, Karsiyaku, Montepaschi, Ulker Klimamio, Beštiktaš i Galatasaray, a ovo mu je treći mandat u Efesu – počeo je 2017. godine.
